The Urban Big Data Centre (UBDC) is delighted to invite applications for its University-funded PhD scholarships, commencing in October 2022.
UBDC’s mission is to be an international center of excellence in the research use of digital footprint data and associated analytical technologies to address the challenges of urban planning, development, and management. Working with a supervisory team from the Centre, the successful students will develop projects aligned with this mission. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in developing advanced skills in quantitative or data-driven social research, and in applying these to real-world urban policy problems.

- Transport and mobility
- Housing and neighborhoods
- Urban governance and services
- Educational disadvantage and place
- Urban sustainability and climate resilience
- Urban sensing and analytics
Methodological priorities include geo-computation approaches as well as participatory approaches in urban analytics.

- UBDC offers a vibrant, multi-disciplinary, and collegiate base in which to develop as a researcher.
- The candidate will enjoy excellent supervisory support from leading researchers in the field as well as the ability to develop connections with our wider community of 40+ researchers and data scientists, including associates across the University of Glasgow, and with a network of international partners around the world.
- Students will have access to the extensive data resources hosted by the Centre although they are also welcome to draw on other data sources.
