The British Ecological Society 2022 Grants for African Ecologists (up to £8,000)

Applications are currently ongoing for the 2022 British Ecological Society (BES) grants for African Ecologists.

This funding assists African ecologists in doing cutting-edge ecological research. They recognize that ecologists in Africa confront particular hurdles when conducting research; this award is aimed to help users grow their skills, expertise, and knowledge base while also allowing them to network with ecologists around the world. The British Ecological Society funds services and equipment in Africa to enable great ecological science.

Grants

  • For research, the British Ecological Society Grants might be worth up to £8,000. An additional payment of up to £2,000 may be sought to help pay fund travel to meet other ecologists outside their typical peer group.
  • Successful applicants also receive two years of free BES membership and free online access to our journals.

Eligibility

Applicants for the British Ecological Society 2022 Grants must meet the following requirements:

  • be a scientist and a citizen of a country in Africa or its associated islands
  • have at least an MSc or equivalent degree
  • be working for a university or research institution in Africa (including field centres, NGOs, museums etc.) that provides basic research facilities
  • carry out the research in a country in Africa or its associated islands

Selection Criteria

The criteria for selection in the British Ecological Society 2022 Grants include:

  • applicant personal qualifications,
  • the scientific excellence,
  • novelty and feasibility of the proposal, and
  • the academic and non-academic impact of the planned research.
