Research Technician for Bioinformatics and Meta-omics

The faculty of Science at Radboud University has a vacancy for the position of Research Technician for Bioinformatics and Meta-omics.

In this position, the candidate will have the opportunity to join in the pursuit of innovative research on new, unexplored microbial groups and their metabolic activities, with impacts on environmental and biotechnological solutions. As a research technician in meta-omics, he/she will be embedded in a dynamic and diverse work environment at the Department of Microbiology of the Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences (RIBES).

The candidate will focus on bioinformatic approaches to explore large-scale sequencing and similar meta-omics datasets. She/he will be responsible for managing the software and hardware needs of the users, ensuring data maintenance, organization, and optimal performance of the servers. As part of this role, the candidate will serve as the main contact with the IT department at Radboud University’s Faculty of Science. Next, to provide research support, there will be an opportunity to supervise students during practical university courses that include bioinformatics exercises, co-supervise student internships, and, together with the other staff scientists, provide general support to the department.

Salary

  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €3,377 and a maximum of €4,640 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on previous education and the number of years of relevant work experience.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns temporary employment for 1.5 years, with the possibility of permanent employment following a positive evaluation.

Job Requirements

  • hold a university Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or another relevant field related to computational biology, or
  • a Biology degree with experience in working with metagenomic and other meta-omics data analysis.
  • have hands-on experience working with bioinformatics (microbial metagenomics is a plus).
  • have at least basic programming skills dealing with languages such as Python, Bash, or R.
  • are accustomed to the software and hardware components of servers, and their environment.
  • have a clear understanding of the best practices for data storage and data privacy.
  • are proficient in English and have good communication skills.
  • like to work in a team and have excellent administrative and organizational skills.
