Professor in Audit and Assurance at the University of Groningen

The Department of Accountancy at the University of Groningen invites applications for a Professor in Audit and Assurance position.

This position is one of the core subjects of accountancy education. In the Accountancy department, the ultimate responsibility for every core subject has been assigned to a professor. In the context of the approaching retirement of the current professor of Auditing and the central position Audit and Assurance has within both research and teaching by the department, succession is crucial. Partly reflecting the changing nature of auditors’ roles in society and their impact on her/work, the name of the chair will be changed to Audit and Assurance. The newly appointed professor is expected to maintain a close relationship with the professional field and oversight bodies, to make a substantive contribution to auditing education and to both scientific and socially relevant research in the accountancy domain.

Tasks

The Professor in Audit and Assurance position encompasses the regular duties of a professor in the areas of teaching, research, and help with administration. The duties include:

  • Participating in, and contributing to, multidisciplinary research within the University’s key focal areas
  • participating in education at the Bachelor’s, Master’s, Executive Master’s, and other executive programs
  • Contributing with practice-driven research directions for the development of successful academic research
  • Assisting in the establishment of audit and assurance curricula at all levels
  • Collaborating with the research program accounting to inspire Dutch and European corporations and other groups
  • Taking involved in research that has a practical application

Salary

The Professor in Audit and Assurance position offers:

  • A salary depending on qualifications and work experience starts from € 5,864 to a maximum of € 8,539 gross salary per month for a full-time position,
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and
  • A pension scheme for employees.

Job Requirements

The prospecting candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • a PhD in business/economics
  • a strong reputation in audit and assurance, as shown by having led national and international projects and research within business practices
  • excellent teaching abilities and experience in curriculum development;
  • the ability to inspire students, faculty, and businesses on audit and assurance
  • a track record of acquiring external funding for research projects
  • a clear and sound vision of the relevancy of the accountancy domain in a fast-changing working environment and society
  • demonstrable management qualities
  • a collegial attitude, with good communication skills
  • good adept in Dutch and English speaking and writing skills.
