Postdoctoral/Senior Researcher – Quantitative Sustainability Analysis

The Faculty of Business and Economics at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) is inviting applications for Postdoctoral/Senior Researcher – Quantitative Sustainability Analysis.

Hogeschool van Amsterdam is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral or senior researcher with expertise in any of the following areas: Sustainability Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Science, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, or related fields. They were recently awarded a research grant from the Dutch Research Council for a project that supports the transition to circular procurement in healthcare.

The project Quantitative Sustainability Analysis aims to create an open-source simulation tool for purchasing managers that factors into their purchasing decisions regarding social, economic, and ecological costs as well as the future benefits of recovered materials from circular cascades. It’s a unique opportunity to work with healthcare practitioners and create an innovative, impactful solution that helps to enable sustainability and circular transition.

Tasks

Working closely with the principal researcher and the multidisciplinary research team, the Postdoctoral/Senior Researcher – Quantitative Sustainability Analysis will deliver the following tasks:

  • Conduct quantitative sustainability analysis and life cycle assessments.
  • Develop and implement computational models using Python programming, operations research, and mathematical modeling.
  • Conduct data analysis and visualization to support research projects.
  • Collaborate with team members and external university partners to write research reports, and publications or create visual communication such as infographics.
  • Maintain communication and relations with the research consortium, which is Dutch speaking and consists of stakeholders from hospitals, textile service providers, waste collectors, consultants, and academics.

Job Requirements

They seek colleagues who meet the following criteria for the Postdoctoral/Senior Researcher – Quantitative Sustainability Analysis:

  • A doctoral degree (completed or nearly completed PhD) in Sustainability Analysis, Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Science, Operations Research, BioEngineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Python programming (familiarity with SQL in Plus).
  • Proven experience with quantitative analysis and mathematical modeling in a professional environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English languages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
