PhD candidate in Statistics and Pharmacometrics

The Faculty of Science at Leiden University is looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join their division of Systems Pharmacology and Pharmacy to perform innovative research in the field of statistics within pharmacometrics and systems pharmacology.

The field of pharmacometrics is focused on the development and application of quantitative models to characterize drug effects and disease progression in order to optimize treatment strategies or clinical trial designs. Pharmacometric models involve a combination of mechanism-based mathematical models to describe drug concentrations and effects, and statistical models such as nonlinear mixed effect models to quantify and predict variability between patients. Given the complexity in both clinical data as well as pharmacological mechanisms modelled, the development and implementation of innovative statistical modeling techniques is essential.

Tasks

During the PhD programme, the candidates are expected to

  • conduct original and collaborative research in the framework of the project and complete their PhD thesis within 4 years;
  • publish scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals;
  • present at national and international conferences;
  • support education activities in the bachelor and master programs of Biopharmaceutical Sciences;
  • engage in collaborations between internal and external research groups;
  • follow PhD courses based on an individual training and supervision plan.

Duration: 4 years

Salary

  • The salary ranges from € 2.770,- per month in the first year to € 3.539,- gross per month in the fourth year based on a full-time position
  • Leiden University offers an attractive benefits package with additional holiday (8%) and end-of-year bonuses (8.3%),
