Merck research grants are available to scientists at all stages of their careers who are linked with any research-based institution, university, or corporation.

Merck is a science-driven organization and conducts its business in healthcare, life science and electronics. As part of their commitment to advance science and technology, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany launched the research grants program (hereinafter the “Research Grant”). The aim of the Research Grant is to create new sustainable partnerships with leading global science and technology.

In case applications are received from Healthcare Professionals/representatives of Healthcare Organizations, in addition to these T&C, the applicable Healthcare Compliance principles, rules, and regulations will be followed. Submitters of the best applications will be invited to a deep dive workshop to further advance the proposals together with Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany scientists. For this purpose, a Participant’s Agreement will need to be signed. During the deep dive workshops, the grant awardees will be announced. Subsequent to the grant awardees being announced, Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany will enter into bilateral research grant agreements (hereinafter the “Research Grant Agreement”) with the selected ’s awardees’ affiliated institution(s) prior to pay-out. The selected awardees are free to change their designated affiliation to any research-based institution, university, or company until the conclusion of the Research Grant Agreement.

Eligibility

Merck is seeking research proposals in the field of green hydrogen. Progress is currently being made in areas such as 

  • green hydrogen production e.g. innovative electrolysis technologies, 
  • system and industrial integration of hydrogen technologies e.g. storage, distribution and application areas  
  • fuel cell development.

Selection Criteria

All research applications will be scored based on the following criteria:

  • Innovativeness,
  • Commercial potential,
  • Path forward after 3 years,
  • Probability of success,
  • Team strength, and
  • Strategic fit.

The following documents are required for an application to be considered complete:

  • High School or/and University Transcripts
  • Valid ACT or SAT or GMAT or GRE score or corresponding test waiver provided by the university
  • Resume
  • Essay
