Laboratory manager/Technician in Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation

Wageningen University & Research (WUR) has an opening for a Laboratory manager/Technician in Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation.

As a Laboratory manager/Technician, the candidate will have a variety of responsibilities. He/she will be responsible for the overall proper management and maintenance of the laboratory and liaise with other WUR people. He/she will prepare and conduct chemical analyses of water, soil, and plant samples, using key instruments such as AutoAnalyser, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, and CN elemental analyzer. Additionally, you will manage the chemical inventory, ensuring the lab is well-stocked with necessary chemicals and consumables. That equipment is properly maintained to ensure a high standard of technical quality across our environmental and plant-soil laboratories. Beyond these technical tasks, you will assist with fieldwork and support students (BSc, MSc, and PhD) in their research.

This role is ideal for someone who can handle a variety of technical methods and thrives in a dynamic research environment. The ideal candidate has a passion for chemical analysis, a keen attention to detail, and enjoys working collaboratively with students, staff, and researchers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Is hands-on, creative, independent, and comfortable managing a small lab.

Salary

The position Laboratory manager/Technician in Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation offers:

  • A competitive gross salary of between €3.502 and €4.812 for a full-time working week of 38 hours
  • Partially paid parental leave;

Job Requirements

For the position of Laboratory manager/Technician in Plant Ecology and Nature Conservation, the ideal candidate:

  • Have Chemical and Technician diploma at HBO level;
  • 5+ years of experience in water/soil/plant chemical analysis;
  • Experience working with laboratory equipment, including AutoAnalyser, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, and CN elemental analyzer;
  • Excellent communication skills, with a passion for mentoring students;
  • Fluent in Dutch and English;
  • Driver’s license;
  • Experience with insects and the operation and maintenance of microscopes is a plus.
