Jr. Lecturer-Researcher in Commercial Private Law: Corporate, Insolvency or Financial Law

Applications are currently ongoing for a Jr. Lecturer-Researcher in Commercial Private Law: Corporate, Insolvency, or Financial Law at the University of Amsterdam.

Applicants are requested to enclose with their cover letter a proposal for PhD research of 1-2 pages. Nevertheless, the faculty of Law, at the University of Amsterdam is open to their own research proposals, whether or not already elaborated within a research master. Themes that match the interests and expertise of other researchers in the group are:

  • open standards in corporate law (inquiry law, dispute settlement, liability);
  • the company’s liability for acting contrary to the sustainability objectives as formulated in accordance with EU Directives;
  • directors’ liability in the IPR;
  • a specific legal form for the social enterprise;
  • differences between debt relief procedures for legal entities (WHOA and suspension of payments) and for natural persons (WSNP) and the relative ease of debt relief within them.

Tasks

Candidate duties as a Jr. Lecturer-Researcher in Commercial Private Law: Corporate, Insolvency or Financial Law consist of:

  • conducting doctoral research in the field of Corporate Law and/or Insolvency Law and/or Financial Law, in line with the research of research group ACT; 
  • providing education (workgroups) in bachelor courses/master courses in the field of Insolvency Law (Insolvency Law and Security, Insolvency Law and Corporate Finance or the English language course Finance, Security and Insolvency) and/or Corporate Law (Corporate Law, Corporate and Legal Entity Law, Mergers & Takeovers) and/or Financial Law or other courses that are related to the PhD research;
  • if necessary, coordinating education in a bachelor’s or master’s course (drawing up study guides, making assignments, and being the contact person for and towards students);
  • supervising theses in the master’s degree in Private Law, the master’s degree in Law & Finance, and in bachelor’s education;
  • actively contribute to the Faculty’s research community, in particular the ACT.

Salary

  • a competitive gross salary between €2,846 to €4,490 gross per month
  • 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance

Job Requirements

The Jr. Lecturer-Researcher in Commercial Private Law: Corporate, Insolvency or Financial Law requires applicants with the following criteria:

  • a completed master’s degree in law;
  • achieved excellent study results in law school;
  • (some) experience in providing legal academic education;
  • excellent didactic qualities, in Dutch and preferably also in English;
  • excellent verbal and written command of the Dutch and English language;
  • good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team;
  • passion for conducting (doctoral) research in the field of Corporate Law Insolvency Law or Financial Law;
  • numerical insight and financial literacy are a plus.
