The Global Development Network calls for proposals from researchers in Low-income and Middle-income countries within the theme Nexus of Education, Development, and Human Security for the Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD)
The Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) is a competitive research grant program that identifies and funds outstanding research proposals that have a high potential for excellence in research and clear policy implications for addressing development issues. Applicants receive expert feedback from junior and later senior researchers.
It is a competitive research grant program under the umbrella of the Global Development Awards Competition (GDAC), administered by GDN, funded under the Policy and Human Resources Development Fund (PHRD) trust fund managed by the World Bank, and generously supported by the Ministry of Finance, Government of Japan. This award program identifies and funds outstanding research proposals in low- or middle-income countries with high potential for excellence in research and clear policy implications for addressing development issues.
The 2023 edition of the Global Development Awards Competition theme is Nexus of Education, Development, and Human Security.
The funds will be used to support the research work proposed by the winners toward the completion of their research. Additionally, awardees will be paired with world-class academics in their area of work who will be Scientific and Technical Advisors.
Finalists will be invited to join a communications training in preparation for a pitch of their project in front of a high-level Jury, which will decide which research proposal to award, at an event in April 2024 (details to be confirmed) and projects are expected to start in June 2024.
Awards
- The first prize winner will receive a grant of US$ 30,000.
- The second prize US$ 20,000 and
- third prize US$ 10,000 respectively
Eligibility
To qualify for the Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development, the following must be met:
- The eligible country for submission are those classified by World Bank as Low-income or Middle-income countries.
- The competition is open to researchers who are citizens or permanent residents of these countries.
- The age limits for applicants are 45 years
- GDN strongly encourages female researchers to engage and apply!
