Reviewing your outline before turning it in, is very essential. It helps you note areas where you might have flaws in its organization.
Although, most times it’s for personal use. Nevertheless, it’s still important that you take one last critical look at your outline before you begin writing.
Check your outline to ensure you’ve accomplished your goal
Your outline should be related to your thesis or main idea, address the goal you set out to accomplish, and reflect your audience. If not, your outline may need to be revised.
This also allows you to look for missing pieces or ideas that aren’t fully fleshed out. If you notice areas where questions remain unanswered, it is best to fill in those information gaps.
If ideas are missing or does not meet your point, revise your outline
In some cases, you may need to include more information, such as additional supporting details. That is possible thanks to the revision process. You may also want to rewrite sentences or phrases to make your ideas clearer.
If you are creating an outline for yourself, you may not need to worry about this.
Submitting it for an assignment?
Examine the document for typos, grammatical errors, and formatting flaws. This ensures that you receive full credit for your work. When creating a phrase outline, keep in mind that sentence fragments are acceptable.
Also, it’s a good idea to have someone else check it for errors because it’s often difficult to spot mistakes in your work.
Furthermore, while editing your outline, refer back to your assignment sheet or rubric to ensure you’ve completed the assignment completely. If not, go back and make the necessary changes.
Add more layers, if necessary
If you need to add more sub-layers, start with lowercase Roman numerals I ii, iii, iv, etc.), then lowercase letters (a, b, c, d, etc.), and finally numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.). In most cases, three or four layers are sufficient.
But, if you want to include more information, you can add more layers.
Additional layers are often necessary for lengthy creative work or a detailed study guide.
