The trainee programme in biochemical engineering will give candidates a solid foundation for their career as bioprocess designers. They will also gain project management skills and business knowledge so that they can evaluate the implementation of developed processes in an industrial environment. The programme will help them boost their independence, creativity and critical thinking–all crucial skills in the innovative interdisciplinary field of biochemical engineering.

In theirfirst year, they will take some mandatory courses including economic evaluation and project management and their choice of advanced courses in fermentation technology, microbiology, downstream processing, environmental biotechnology or biocatalysts. They will also contribute to a group design project. During their second year, and will work on an individual design project carried out in, or in close collaboration with, a partner in the biotech industry.

Duration: The position offers a 1-year contract with a 1-year extension.

The position offer:

  • A gross monthly salary of €2,089.- for 40 hours per week.

Job Requirements

For the Engineering Doctorate (EngD Traineeship) in Designer Bioprocess, the following criteria must be met:

  • An MSc Degree in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Food or Environmental Technology.
  • Another relevant qualification, within the discretion of the Selection Committee.
  • Applicants seeking a career in the international biotech industry, Process design, and development, and the application of technology.

  • Copies of their master’s and bachelor’s diplomas.

  • Two reference letters from supervisors of (research) projects or (scientific) work.
  • Evidence of proficiency in the English language for non-native English speakers without an English-taught master’s degree.
