Call for Concept Note: World Food Forum Transformative Research Challenge

Teams of young and young-at-heart researchers are welcome to submit a two-page concept paper suggesting an innovative research plan to help end hunger and improve global agri-food systems, focusing on one of the “four betters” as well as the World Food Forum annual theme, “Healthy Diets. Healthy Planet.”

Food is the single strongest lever to optimize human health and environmental sustainability on Earth. However, the pattern of food production and consumption is currently threatening both people and the planet. Sustainably and nutritiously feeding close to 10 billion people by 2050, while also addressing climate change, is a challenge that can and must be met with global awareness, bold action, and innovation of the WFF.

The World Food Forum Transformative Research Challenge (TRC) aims to encourage sustainable development research and innovation in order to end hunger and transform our food systems thereby fulfilling the Zero hunger initiative of the United Nations Sustainable Development goal.

Nevertheless, successful applicants will be mentored by experts to help them turn their ideas into solid research papers, which they will present on the World Food Forum world stage in October 2022.

Here are some samples of output from the WFF Transformative Research Challenge:

  • a research article for publication;
  • a research project proposal for grant funding;
  • a paper or presentation at a scientific conference;
  • a plan for further development, partnership, or scaling to transform a research innovation into a tangible solution.
