As industries face mounting pressure to reduce their environmental impact and adopt sustainable practices, PSE plays a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and managing complex industrial processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize resource consumption.

In the context of the energy transition, the demand for renewable energy sources, decarbonization strategies, and energy-efficient systems has increased the complexity of process engineering, requiring advanced, data-driven approaches to meet these evolving needs.

The Assistant Professor will address these challenges by combining machine learning techniques with PSE to drive innovation in sustainable, energy-efficient processes.

Salary

  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 11 (min. €4,537,- max. €6,209,- gross per month).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Process Systems Engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on machine learning applications.
  • Proven expertise in process modeling, optimization, and control using machine learning.
  • Demonstrated research accomplishments in sustainability, circular economy, process intensification, or separation processes.
  • Experience in teaching at the university level and a commitment to student mentorship.
  • Strong publication record in reputable journals and a track record of securing research funding.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring of students and staff, leading a project or chairing a group.
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English.
