Assistant Professor in Digital Research Methods for AI Platforms

The Department of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam seeks an Assistant Professor in Digital Research Methods for AI Platforms.

Digital research methods are an umbrella term for computational approaches to the study of the web, including social media and, most recently, AI platforms. They are concerned with how to collect, analyse, and visualise online data for the dual purposes of analysing cultural and societal trends as well as undertaking platform critique. While in its infancy, generative AI platform research has progressed in at least these two directions: how to make use of them to sort and classify data for sense-making, and how to evaluate and detect platform bias. In both cases, the slipperiness and fungibility of AI platforms are on display as they continually amend and update themselves. The position concerns itself with the parallel job of applying AI platforms in digital cultural research and at once charting and critiquing their value alignment.
