Academic Hive Scholar for the month of June 2021, is Edim James from Nigeria!
Edim is a graduate student at the University of Calabar, Nigeria. He is generally interested in research on marketing, with a specific emphasis on brand management, product development, services marketing, international relations, and E-marketing.
Edim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, is certified by the Nigerian Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) and is on track to bag a Master’s Degree in Marketing (in Product & Brand Management). In February, he emerged as Academic Hive Most Prolific Writer for 2021.
Currently, Edim is working on his thesis titled “Servicescape and customer satisfaction in fast-food restaurants in Calabar Municipality, Nigeria”. This research will particularly contribute to fast-food restaurants in Africa that are currently struggling to grow amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic. It will lay out clear strategies that will enhance customer satisfaction and overall marketing performance through servicescape strategies. The study will also serve as a compass to guide future African researchers in conducting similar researches across the African Continent.
According to Edim, as an African researcher, the most daunting challenge he faces is the lack of access to quality research resources while conducting studies. This challenge is made worse because most public universities in Africa do not provide students and researchers access to cutting-edge research resources at the click of a button as it is obtainable in Western regions. So, students only rely on open-access research resources for most of their research.
Edim’s favourite inspiration to early-career researchers is drawn from the words of former US President, Barack Obama:
Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when given the opportunity
All researchers need is that opportunity.
When not researching, Edim spends his past time watching movies on Netflix or listening to refreshing music!
