Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic junior scientist to join their research team. Their projects involve the development and improvement of analytical methods for growth promoters and veterinary drugs in a variety of matrices. They are excited about the new and challenging projects in food and feed safety, such as those involving the circular economy, climate change, and new protein sources. Being able to analyze traditional and new food and food-related materials is thus critical to their work. To contribute to food safety, they use cutting-edge GC- or LC-(HR)MS methodologies.
Tasks
In the role of Junior Scientist Position on Food Residue Analysis, the candidate will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
- participate in research projects on a wide range of topics
- stay up to date on and share new developments in the field of analytical techniques
- shared responsibility for designing and preparation of experiments
- execute lab experiments related to residue analyses under the quality assurance system ISO 17025
- analyze, interpret, report, and discuss results with experts and project teams, including advice for the next steps
- advice colleagues on the application of analytical techniques and methods.
- responsible for critical evaluation of equipment, methods, and techniques and pro-actively proposing points for improvement
Salary
The Junior Scientist Position in Food Residue Analysis offers:
- a competitive gross salary of between €2949 and €4809 for a full-time working week of 36 hours
- working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
- the option to accrue additional compensation hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;
- sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
- there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
- a fixed December bonus of 4%;
- excellent pension scheme.
Job Requirements

- have an MSc degree in analytical chemistry (or related subject)
- work experience in GC- and/or LC-(HR)MS analyses
- affinity with statistics and data analysis is a plus
- effective communication skills in English and Dutch or the willingness to learn Dutch
- a team player with a hands-on attitude, with the following key competencies: accurate, results-oriented, analytical, well-organized, good communication skills, pro-active attitude, and willingness to learn.
