Lecturer Position in Marine Ecology at Wageningen University & Research

Wageningen University is seeking to appoint a lecturer in Marine Ecology in the Netherlands.

Teaching tasks include course development in the marine (social-ecological) domain, providing and coordinating lab sessions, and supervising internships and graduation subjects in the field of marine ecology. In this capacity, the lecturer contributes to the development of the new BSc Marine Science that will start in 2023.

The work of the Aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management group focuses on generating new insights that can help restore freshwater and saltwater ecosystems and train a new generation of professionals. The complex interaction between physical, chemical, and biological processes with human-induced changes to the environment is central to our system-oriented research. The research is multidisciplinary (chemical, biological, mathematical) and ranges from laboratory research (detailed process studies) to model studies to field studies. The group’s multidisciplinary expertise comes together in the development of integrated models for ecosystem and water quality management.

Salary

The Lecturer Position in Marine Ecology offers;

  • a competitive gross salary of between € 2.846 and € 4.490,- for full-time
  • sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
  • working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
  • the option to accrue additional compensation/holiday hours by working more, up to 40 hours per week;

Job Requirements

The Lecturer Position in Marine Ecology requires applicants with:

  • PhD or similar research experience in the field of aquatic or marine ecology.
  • Possession of a university teaching qualification (is an advantage.
  • Demonstrable affinity and experience with developing and providing ecological education.
  • Good network in education and research.
  • Demonstrated affinity and experience with interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary (e.g. socio-ecological) thinking is an advantage.
  • Inspiring and enterprising teacher, able to provide education independently, supported by research conducted by and with other staff.
  • Conceptual/analytical ability, social awareness, good presentation skills, and results orientated.
  • Good command of English.
