Assistant Professor in Aeronautics for Sustainable Operations – Tenure Track

The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at the Delft University of Technology is offering a tenured position at the level of Assistant Professor specializing in Aeronautics for Sustainable Operations.

This position aims to enhance the aeronautical knowledge needed to assess and define the future operations that will effectively contribute to the transition to zero-emission operations in the aviation industry. The research and education focus will be mainly on optimising operations of future aircraft and on modelling operational concepts that can contribute to this decarbonisation goal.

The research topics, however, include the flight and ground operations modelling, determining the requirements for hydrogen- or electric-powered aircraft in future commercial aviation, assessing the impact of the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) on the carbon footprint of airlines, modelling operational improvements for climate impact mitigation (e.g., intermediate stops, formation flight, flying low and slow), modelling the flight operations of future aircraft design concepts, flight trajectories optimisation for community noise and emission abatement, and assessing weather impact on optimal flight trajectories to counter persistent contrails formation.
