OpenGeoHub foundation seeks applicants in the field of geocomputation, environmental sciences, Earth observation, big data, data science, high-performance computing to apply for the position of Postdoctoral Data Scientist on Geocomputation for Global Environmental Monitoring
The foundation is looking for a post-doctoral researcher in the above-stated field (programming in R, Python, Bash, Julia, and similar), specifically focused on using state-of-the-art geocomputing frameworks/algorithms and GIS software to help process large Earth observation data sets (Copernicus Sentinel, NASA Landsat, MODIS) and implement parallelization in cluster or cloud solutions (Slurm, Google Earth Engine, Amazon AWS, OVH) for the purpose of producing global datasets either by running analysis, modeling or running process-based operations.

Duration: 3 years
Salary
- Salary starts at €3.807 gross per month depending on experience;
- A holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary;
- Minimum of 29 holidays if in full-time employment;

Job Requirements
As a Postdoctoral Data Scientist on Geocomputation for Global Environmental Monitoring, the following are required of applicants;
- have a PhD degree in the field of environmental science and/or geoinformatics and/or remote sensing; combined with a background in GIS, geocomputation, and/or environmetrics.
- be independent in running computing in R and/or Python and/or Bash.
- be competent at, and enjoy developing analytical solutions, producing value-added datasets, and writing up and reporting research/results of experiments.
- know how to automate benchmarking and optimize computing to save computing costs without losing accuracy.
- have experience working with cloud-/web-based solutions for computing e.g. Slurm, Google Earth Engine, and/or AWS.
- fluent in English.
