Icipe is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic, and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Manager, People and Organization Development (MPOD).

Its mission is to help alleviate poverty, ensure food and nutritional security, and improve the overall health status of people in the tropics. It does so by developing and extending management tools and strategies for harmful and useful arthropods while preserving the natural resource base. Since its establishment in 1970, ICIPE has become a significant contributor to the science and innovation required to meet the health and food security challenges of sub-Saharan Africa.

As Assistant Professor in Strategic Management, the candidate will do research and teach courses at the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels offered by U.S.E.’s, which is home to the school’s researchers in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Strategic Management, International Business, and Marketing. They are looking for a colleague who can contribute in the areas of strategic management and/or its related disciplines (innovation management, international business).

Tasks

More specifically, student tasks will include:

  • Supervise the leadership of the teams providing HR services.
  • Foster business partnerships with functions directly engaged in research for development and those in support thereof.
  • Recruiting international and national staff with the capabilities and competencies required for the present and future

  • Act as a link and offer communication and coordination that facilitates a close working relationship between the Centre and its hosted organizations.
  • Handle various matters of the centre by participating in joint arrangements with hosted organizations

Duration: 2 years.

Job Requirements

Applicants for the Manager, People and Organization Development must meet the following criteria:

  • Advanced university degree (Masters) in the relevant field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the areas of general management, including human resources, in international and multicultural setups.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of organizational policies and practices in research organizations is highly desirable.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and discretion in dealing with sensitive issues.
  • Capacity to manage, supervise, and evaluate the performance of staff.
  • Ability to generate new ideas and ways of working to continuously improve existing work processes, practices, and concepts.
  • Result-oriented, with the ability to work under pressure and independently to meet set goals.
  • Good team worker.
  • Ability to relate with others in mutual support and respect towards common goals and shared vision.
  • Innovation and creativity:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders from multiple disciplines and backgrounds.
