Post-Doctoral Researcher Reintegrate Project, Nigeria Country Case

The Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher within the framework of the European Research Council project “Reintegrate: Reintegration Governance”.

The Reintegrate project is funded for five years (2021-2026). The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be part of a research team led by Dr. Katie Kuschminder inclusive of 1 Post-Doctoral Researcher and 1 PhD candidate. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be responsible for carrying out research and conducting a policy analysis of reintegration in Nigeria.

The Reintegrate project will study the governance of how return migrants are reintegrated into societies upon their return. The project will develop a conceptual understanding of what is reintegration governance, its implementation, and effectiveness, and a new theoretical model of how different forms of reintegration governance shape returnees’ reintegration experiences and outcomes.

Tasks

The core tasks of the successful candidate will be to complete the Reintegrate Project case study analysis of Nigeria.

This will include:

  • conducting a policy analysis of reintegration-related policies in Nigeria;
  • planning and implementing interviews in Nigeria with a minimum of 30 key stakeholders;
  • planning and implementing interviews in Nigeria with a minimum of 60 return migrants;
  • analysing the collected data;
  • contributing to comparative analysis of the Reintegrate project;
  • writing two journal articles from the case analysis;
  • contributing to regular team meetings and other project activities.

Duration: 18 Months

Salary

The Post-Doctoral Researcher Reintegrate Project, Nigeria Country Case will receive:

  • A gross monthly salary of € 3974, depending on past education and relevant work experience
  • a generous holiday allowance and a year-end bonus.
  • Parental leave is standard for 16 weeks.
