Assistant Professor on Clinical Child and Family Studies

The Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies at Utrecht University has a job opening for an Assistant Professor.

The prospective Assistant Professor will be located, depending on their expertise, in one of three chairs in this department: Forensic Youth Care (Asscher), Psychosocial and parenting problems (Deković), and Pedagogical assessments and treatment (Van Baar).

The Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies carries out research that contributes to understanding both typical and atypical developmental trajectories from early childhood to adolescence, factors within the social context that affect this development (with explicit attention to the family, but also peers, media, and the broader social context), biological risk factors and ways to improve (early) identification, prevention and treatment for psychosocial and family problems.

Tasks

The tasks of the Assistant Professor will include:

  • Developing, coordinating, and providing education within one or more of the education programs mentioned above;
  • Actively contributing to the development and implementation of teaching innovations;
  • Supervising Bachelor and Master theses, (clinical) internships and PhD research;
  • Designing and conducting scientific research on one above-mentioned topics, leading to scientific publications;
  • Translating research findings to professionals in the field;
  • The acquisition of external funds for research projects.

Salary

  • gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience – ranges between €3,974 and €5,439,

Job Requirements

The Assistant Professor position on Clinical Child and Family Studies seeks applicants wih:

  • A PhD degree in the field of Clinical Child, Family, and Education Studies, Developmental Psychology, Forensic Child and Youth Care Sciences, or a related field.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following domains: typical and atypical development at different developmental stages (from infants to adolescents), the factors within the social context that affect this development, and diagnostic models and evidence-based interventions.
  • Experience in co-developing and co-coordinating academic courses.
  • A Basic Teaching Qualification or are willing to acquire this qualification in the near future.
  • Preferably, but not necessarily, have an affinity with teaching in “clinical courses”.
  • A strong methodological background, familiar with longitudinal and/or intervention research, and have mastery of state-of-the-art data analytic methods.
  • Scientifically creative and productive, as is evident from recent publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Fluency in English both in speaking and writing at an academic level.
